Ohio exports are on the rise again

After a slow 2009, Ohio’s exports are on the rise again, thereby bringing good news for the Ohio companies who experienced lower exports last year. In the six months of 2010, the value of Ohio exports has reached US$ 20.2 billion, a 29 % increase over the first half of last year, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's Foreign Trade Division. So far in 2010, Ohio's export has outpaced the nation's 23 % increase.
As per the U.S. Department of Commerce, exports form a strong pillar of Ohio's economy and in 2008, 1 out of 13 jobs in Ohio's private sector was attached to the manufacture of exported goods.
Economy of North East Ohio improves

According to a report by a regional development agency, the economy in Northeast Ohio showed signs of improvement in the second quarter of 2010.
Cleveland-based nonprofit agency Team Northeast Ohio released the study that promotes business development and attraction. It shows that the 16-county region saw employment gains in the second quarter of 2010.
The study states that employment increased in the last quarter for the first time in two years, with gains in the manufacturing and service sectors. In manufacturing, the region has gained about 8,000 jobs, whereas in the service sector, there were about 48,000 job gains since January 2010.
Ohio to prosper depends on exports

Researchers in Ohio state that the country can prosper if it ramps up its export business. To create jobs, businesses need new customers, and the potential to find them is huge in countries like India, China, and Brazil amongst other countries.
Besides, global competition keeps companies at the top of the business. Last year, Ohio ranked the seventh-largest exporting state, with an advantage in the export game. It has seven major metropolitan areas in the top 100 exporters in the country, and these metros are producing most of the exports.
Ohio’s small business climate tops in Midwest
In 2009, the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council ranked Ohio 11th in the nation and 1st in the Midwest for overall business climate, as per a statement released by Ohio Governor Ted Strickland’s office.
The 2009 study of the Small Business & Entrepreneurship (SBE) 14th survival index rankings evaluate states in 36 categories, which are considered by business owners and entrepreneurs while examining the categories to consider their location.
Largest Solar farm inaugurated in Ohio

Upper Sandusky, Ohio marked the opening of the State's largest solar energy project, one of the largest in the Midwest, which can produce up to 12 megawatts energy on a sunny day. The amount is enough to power 9,000 homes.
New Jersey-based PSEG owns the farm. Even though the company is headquartered outside Ohio, it took the help of Ohio companies to build the farm. For instance, the 159,000 solar panels were manufactured in Perrysburg by Ohio based company First Solar.
RNET Technologies Inc to get US$ 2 million in energy awards

A press release from Ohio Governor Ted Strickland’s office states that RNET Technologies Inc., a high-speed networking company is receiving US$ 2 million in awards through the U.S. Department of Energy. Out of this, US$ 1 million is received to revise the PETSc libraries to operate more efficiently on an emerging generation of supercomputers, and the other US$ 1 million is to develop an application that improves file-transfer performance crucial to research projects.

According to the Director of the Ohio Department of Development, Lisa Patt-McDaniel, "Ohio's dominance in iron and steel, polymers, and various chemicals has positioned the state to make scientific and technological breakthroughs in new, advanced materials that are revolutionizing many industrial and consumer products".
Ohio Third Frontier's most recent contribution to the advanced materials cluster is a US$ 3 million award to the University of Dayton Research Institute to fund the scale-up and production of a new multifunctional, multitasking nanomaterial.
Ohio communities to receive US$ 3 million funds

Ohio Department of Development Director Lisa Patt-McDaniel announced that 11 communities will receive a total of US$ 3 million to improve distressed areas through the Neighborhood Revitalization Grant Program, a competitive program of the Ohio Department of Development’s Community Development Division, which is funded by Community Development Block Grant Program funds.
Ohio expansion projects to create and retain more than 1,830 jobs

Ohio businesses and communities will receive US$ 785,000 in economic development grants to aid economic growth, leveraging more than US$ 16.6 million. The State Controlling Board approved grants administered by the Ohio Department of Development which are expected to create 270 jobs and retain 1,562 positions.
