Wind Energy Association urges Ohio to change its tax setup
23-May-2009

Ohio's existing tax method could be a hurdle in enhancing the amount of electricity that comes from renewable sources in Ohio.

The association wrote a letter to Ohio Governor, Ted Strickland saying that the state could charge a production tax on electricity generated by wind turbines, rather than a tangible personal property tax on an electric utility's equipment.

The association further stated that neighboring states like Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania and West Virginia have already reduced or eliminated that tax, thereby making them more attractive to potential wind energy developers.
