Supporters of wind-solar firms oppose changes in Ohio's renewable-energy proposals
1-July-2009

The supporters of wind and solar energy appealed to Ohio lawmakers not to make any amendments in the green regulations in Ohio's renewable-energy and efficiency legislation, which was adopted last year. The lawmakers are planning to permit burning waste from paper mills and coal methane gas, along with tires and trash companies to be called ''renewable energy''.

The regulation says that 12.5 % of all power sold in Ohio should come from renewable energy by 2025 and another 12.5 percent to come from so-called ''advanced'' energy sources, such as clean coal and nuclear power. It also offers to give renewable energy credits to solar and wind energy companies.

As per the renewable energy supporters, the amendments would give renewable energy credits for technologies that don't fall in this category. This, in turn, will send bad signal to the wind and solar groups and will backslide on the commitment that Ohio made to the renewable energy companies that Ohio is a good place to do business.
